« I’m telling you, Mrs. A. was one of the first people I worked for and she was a real LADY! I came to love her like she was a relative of mine. I’m not saying it just for a compliment. I feel it! I’ve loved her so much that I consider her a relative. The others [the other women employers] were snooty. They treated you like you were a nothing. They treat you like dirt, because you’re just a cleaner. Somebody who is educated, who is kind-hearted, who has feelings, values you. It’s not so much about offering you coffee but it’s the way she will offer the coffee to you. It’s the way she tells you "take a break." But right from the start I have chosen good ladies. I am very, very pleased. I love them very much. Very, very much! »

« Now our relationship is no longer like between an employer and a worker. We are friends. He trusts me a lot and I appreciate it. And I make an effort so that he doesn’t change his mind about me. That is, I try so that he will always think the same of me: that I am doing my job properly. And I believe that he doesn’t have any doubts about me, he doesn’t see me as an "Albanian" anymore in certain things, since he has put me in charge of some jobs. Since he has put me in charge of a large project ahead of other Greek workmen who have been part of the crew for years. This is a sign of appreciation and it pleases me very much. And, you see, even now after four years have passed and we are doing fine, we have become friends, he tells me "If I had known that you were Albanian, I wouldn’t have taken you on the job." It was a time when there was a bad image of the Albanian people in general. »
