Mira comes from Bulgaria ; she was born in 1956 at Montana and came in Greece for the first time in 2001. At the time of the interview her worked as a 'Helper in a restaurant kitchen'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted at the informant´s home. Mira lives with her family in Greece since 2001. She is married and has two children; her oldest son lives in Bulgaria. In her country she worked as a nurse in a kindergarten. She decided to leave Bulgaria because of money problems. In Volos she works in a restaurant kitchen. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: the transition period in Bulgaria after the breakdown of communism, gender roles and relations in Bulgaria, her assessment of the socialist past, her journey to Greece, her first working experience here as a domestic helper, her friends here, her TV preferences, her contact with her country of origin and the ways of she is informed about issues concerning Bulgaria, her co-villagers´ attitude towards her when she visits home, the remittances she sends to her family back home and her will to return to Bulgaria and set up her own business there.
