The project's progress report
Assessing the pilot interviews and reformulating the research questions
After studying the pilot interviews (October 2004 - January 2005) we partly readjusted our research strategy in relation to the following points:
- It turned out that we could not elicit rich narrations from the younger generation (16-18 years old), but only short answers and statements.
- To some degree, the same was also true for the thematic subfield "transcultural communication" which mainly focused on practices such as the watching of television, the use of new communication technologies, and the use of public spaces.
In order to face these problems we decided that in these two cases the interview would play only an auxiliary role and that we would rely instead on visual materials and participant observation.
