Takis

Takis comes from Albania ; he was born in 1980 at Korçe and came in Greece for the first time in 1996. At the time of the interview his worked as a 'Driver'.

Summary:

The main issue discussed in the interview is labor. Takis talks about the several jobs he has done since he came to Greece. He describes some incidents that took place at his workplace and speaks about his relations with his employers and with both his male and female colleagues, mentioning also their and racist attitudes towards him. He talks about language, noting that good knowledge of the Greek language played an important role in his occupational mobility. He also talks about the fear he was feeling during the time he was illegal and the problems he had in his job because of being undocumented. He describes his journey to Greece, and mentions gender relations, the role of work in his socialization, his friendships, and his childhood years in Albania, a period he constantly remembers. Finally he notes that he dreams of setting up his own business one day.
