Anthi

Anthi comes from Albania ; she was born in 1985 at Tirana and came in Greece for the first time in 1997. At the time of the interview her worked as a 'Student and Shop Assistant'.

Summary:

Anthi came to Greece with her family when she was 12 years old. Currently she is a student but she also works in a shop. In Albania her mother was working as a teacher and her father was employed at the Ministry of the Interior. Her grandmother is from Northern Epirus, she speaks Greek, and she lives in Volos. Today her mother works as a domestic helper. Her father doesn´t work due to health problems. Her brother, who is 5 years older than her, works as a plumber. She says that her family decided to migrate mainly because her parents were anxious about their children´s future. In the interview she talks about her family, her grandparents, the way her parents met, her parents´ jobs, the Hoxha regime, the education system in Albania and the festivities held under communism, the school in Greece and the difficulties she faced, gender relations, the transition period, religion, her baptism and the way in which it helped her to socialize with her Greek classmates, and finally about the way she spends her free time.
