Manolis

Manolis comes from Bulgaria ; he was born in 1983 at Village near the city of Burgas and came in Greece for the first time in 1997. At the time of the interview his worked as a 'Worker in a company specializing in metal constructions'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted in the university building. In 1997 Manolis came with his brother to Greece to meet his parents who were already here. Today his parents are divorced. Manolis rents a house in Larisa and works there. He comes very often to Volos and stays at his mother´s house. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: his parents´ studies and work, his reasons for migrating to Greece, the migration journey, his first time in Greece - particularly his first encounter with his father after five years, the Greeks´ attitude towards him, his first working experience helping his father in the fields, the different jobs he has done, the way he sees himself compared to his co-workers, the way Greek people view Bulgarian men and women, issues of language and communication, his view on and his ties to his country of origin, his opinion about Greek men and women and about Bulgarian women, his friends and marriage.
