Athina

Athina comes from Albania ; she was born in 1985 at Tirana and came in Greece for the first time in 1990. At the time of the interview her worked as a 'Saleswoman in a clothing store'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted in the university building. Athina and her family came to Greece on foot when Athina was 5 years old. Her parents are now divorced. Her mother lives in Volos, while her father lives in Ioannina. Athina spends her life between Volos and Ioannina. She has attended Greek high school up to the fourth grade. Some of the main issues that came up during the interview are: views on Albania, on Hoxha and on the communist period; the migration journey and the first encounter with the Greek authorities and Greek people; racist attitudes towards her at a younger age; her experience of the Greek education system; her ties to Albania and her image of the country; Albanian parents, Albanian girls and social control.
