Altin comes from Albania ; he was born in 1981 at Curri (Northern Albania) and came in Greece for the first time in 1999. At the time of the interview his worked as a 'Student and Construction Worker'.

Summary:

Altin has seven brothers and sisters. His family owns vineyards in Albania and is in the wine trade business. When he decided to come to Greece he was still a student. He decided to migrate in order to help his family financially and to live a "better life". He crossed the border on foot, with 7 other people. He settled down in Volos where he joined his brother who had arrived earlier. He describes the journey´s difficulties, his fears and the problems he had to face during the trip. His brother helped him to find a job in a hotel restaurant in Horefto. He describes the job and the initial problems such as the fear of deportation and the language difficulties. Then he decided to return to Volos. He was trained to do casings and is now working in the construction sector. In the evenings he also attends school classes. He has many friends, both Greeks and Albanians, and he goes out a lot. His narration of the 1997 incidents in Albania is very interesting. He also describes the incidents that took place after the football match between Greece and Albania in 2004. As of 2001 he has work and residence permits. He visits Albania two or three times a year. He hasn´t yet decided whether he is going to stay in Greece or return to Albania.
