Julian

Julian comes from Albania ; he was born in 1970 at Pogradets and came in Greece for the first time in 1991. At the time of the interview his worked as a 'Worker in a company specializing in metal constructions'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted at the informant´s home. Julian is married and has two children. In Albania he completed compulsory education and used to do agricultural work. He left Albania for the first time in 1991. During the first three years he used to come to Greece only for the summer to work, returning in the winter to Albania. At that time he was working in the fields and was sharing a house with other Albanian migrant men. As soon as he found a permanent job he decided to settle down in Greece. At that time, he was working at a stable and his employer assured him that he could also bring his family to stay with him. Currently he works in a company specializing in metal constructions. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: the working conditions in Albania and the state regime, the financial position of his family in Albania, his journeys to Greece and the difficulties he faced, his working experience in a stable and his relations with his employer, his children´s baptism and the role of their godfathers, religion under communism, his leisure activities and "Albanian" gatherings, his social relations, the raising of his children and the virginity issue, his marriage, his views on the media during the communist period in Albania, his preferred TV programs in Greece, his communication with his country of origin.
