Svetlana comes from Bulgaria ; she was born in 1956 at Stamboliski and came in Greece for the first time in 2000. At the time of the interview her worked as a 'Domestic helper'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted at the informant´s home. Svetlana is 49 years old and comes from the township of Stamboliski, near Plovdiv. She is divorced and has two children who live in Bulgaria. She studied wine-making and then worked in different factories. In 2000 she came with a friend illegally to Greece. Before settling down in Volos, she stayed for some time in Salonica, in the Peloponnese and in Athens. Currently she works as a live-in domestic helper, taking care of an elderly lady. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: Bulgarian men´s way of thinking, her marriage, the education system and entertainment during the communist period in Bulgaria, her participation in the Communist Youth League Komsomol and its activities, life in Bulgaria before, after and during the communist period, her working experience in Greece and her relations with her employers, her friends here, religion, and her compatriots´ attitudes towards her when she visits her country.
