Ilir

Ilir comes from Albania ; he was born in 1958 at Porodin and came in Greece for the first time in 1992. At the time of the interview his worked as a 'Construction worker'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted at the informant´s home. Illir was born in 1955 in Porodin village, near the city of Korçe. He is married and has two sons. During the period of communism in Albania he was a policeman. However, in 1988 he was fired from the police force, because of disobedience. After that he worked for three years for a company. In 1997, because of the unrest in Albania, he decided to bring his family to Greece. Now they live together in Volos. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: his relation to and his views on religion, his experience as a policeman under communism, his father´s role and the control he exercised over Illir, the regime´s downfall and the current political situation in Albania, the change of gender relations in Albania and his criticism of gender relations in Greece, the significance of the family and the control he exercises over his children, female and male gender roles.
