Daphne

Daphne comes from Bulgaria ; she was born in 1989 at Village near Burgas and came in Greece for the first time in 1991. At the time of the interview her worked as a 'Student'.

Summary:

The interview was conducted at the informant´s home. Daphne came with her parents to Greece crossing the border on foot. In the beginning she and her family settled down in a village near Volos. He has only one brother. She attends a special high school in which the curriculum gives special weight to musical education and in general she shows a great interest in music. Some of the main issues discussed in the interview concern: the idea of marriage, her parents´ studies and jobs in Bulgaria, memories of her village, the journey to Greece, her parents´ settlement and work in Greece, her positive experiences of the Greek school, her friendships with Greek and Bulgarian people, the use of technology as a means of communication and entertainment, her relation to music, the language issue, her future plans, her ties to her country of origin and to her parents, issues of gender relations, her first working experience and her relation to religion. An important element that arises in the interview is the fact that Daphne only recently seems to have discovered her Bulgarian identity.
